Hip Hop lives on forever. No matter what. What has been accomplished in this genre is so unbelievable. These guys are true legends in all of music.
10) Guru
It may surprise you that the late Guru is on this list. "Where's Lil Wayne? Where's Wiz Khalifa?" No. Guru is true fucking hiphop. He has the most soothing voice I have ever heard. It doesn't even seem as though there is someone rapping, you get sucked in and hypnotized by the words he presents. Guru's lyrics are also unbelievable. His voice was absolutely perfect for all of those Premier beats. Gang Starr produced some of the smoothest music in hip hop history. The group created a bridge between jazz and rap, Premier's beats and Guru's voice ease you into a place where you just listen. "The wackness is spreading like the plague." Guru was the cure for that plague. But sadly Guru passed away recently, and there were reports that Guru and Premier got into a huge fight that ruined their friendship shortly before his death, which is absolutely tragic. Yet, although Guru passed, his music lives on and we can still vibe out to his voice that was so unique. R.I.P. Guru
9) Notorious B.I.G.
It may surprise you that Biggie is this low on the top 10 list. In many people's lists he is #1. But despite the fact that I think the first 8 are better than Biggie, that doesn't take away from him as a rapper. He is unbelievable. It's scary how unbelievable his voice is... how perfect it is for rapping. and big has the best flow of all time, hands down. His two albums are legendary. He had a whole coast love him for how good he was... and a whole coast hate him... for how good he was. He has this image of this huge tough thug, that was only about murder. However he was just as versatile as most of the rappers on this list. From pop hits to gangster bangers, he has endless flows and there isnt a reason for anyone not to love his music. R.I.P. Big
8) Kanye West
Oh Kanye... Since his "backpack-rapper" days, he's really changed as a person. And although many people don't like him because of his ego... it's deserved. This dude's music is unreal. His beats have stayed incredible since the Blueprint. Oh and he can rap too. Kanye has become the biggest celebrity in hiphop somewhat because of his wild antics, but even if you think he's a douche, his music is just too damn good. When Ye came on the scene (as a rapper) in '03, his controversial single "Jesus Walks" set the tone for his career. He'll be in your fucking face and you won't be able to get the taste out your mouth even if you try. Ye has done everything. He's kept modern hiphop breathing, when it was struggling to survive. His first three albums could all be in discussion (in my opinion) for being in the top 10 hip hop albums ever. 808's and heartbreak (although it wasn't rap) was actually a much better album than people give it credit for, and MBDTF is an unbelievable album in which we can see Ye maturing, with his beats and his rhymes. With a more dark and orchestral feel to it, Ye was able to rap more about his emotions, but presented it in a way that sounds so good, you can't help but vibe out to it. Ye is fucking sick with a microphone and even when no one gave him a chance to rap before Dropout, "oh he's just a producer" look what he did. he's one of the biggest faces in hip hop and owns his own label. HA! Now you look stupid. and he's not looking back either. look for endless classics from this dude. He'll be jumping up the list soon enough.
7) Snoop Dogg
A real OG. that gangsta ass flow that gets ur head bopping every time u hear it. he kept true to himself since Doggystyle. 20 years in the game and hes still dropping heat. fuck what u think, he still makes hot ass shit. In his raps Snoop is cool and laid back, but hes still an OG, so dont fuck with him cus he will still shoot you. haha. But seriously, Snoop is just one of those guys, who if you actually look at it, has had so many bangers. Consistently for 20+ years he's been releasing straight fire, with no hesitation or trouble. Best Pothead Rapper of all time.... hahaha
6) Common
So Common is my favorite rapper of all time. He's the "conscious guy." With an endless list of beautiful music, he has slowly climbed up the ranks in hip hop, with his smooth voice and cool delivery. Teaming up with his childhood friend (and now hip hop legend) No I.d. he started his career as Common Sense, and had that classic old school flow and made it his own, with those unforgettable voice cracks. haha. But as the years went on, you could hear Com maturing in his music. The beats strayed away from boom-bap and more towards beats like Dilla's and he started saying things with a positive message. Whether his message is about the black community, or just hip hop in itself, Com is saying something that we can truly take to heart when the song ends. Although his last album, Universal Mind Control (produced by Pharrell), flopped, we hope to see Com come back to his element, which is smooth and comfortable hip hop... not electro rap. I hope we get to see as much Kanye and No I.d. onthe Dreamer the Believer as I hope, because I know that Com will be on point. Like he always is... when he tries. But my man is a true legend, the best "conscious guy" in the game right now.
